What is Cosmetic Bonding?
Cosmetic bonding is a treatment that utilizes tooth-colored composite resin to correct smile flaws. This is the same durable, high quality material we use to repair teeth following decay or minor damage. Once in place, the cosmetic bonding will look and feel just like your natural, healthy tooth structure.
Who Should Consider Cosmetic Bonding?
Cosmetic bonding offers a conservative, single visit cosmetic treatment that can correct a number of smile flaws, such as dental:
How does Cosmetic Bonding Work?
Cosmetic bonding treatment is very safe and comfortable. We begin by numbing the area around your teeth to ensure your comfort. Then, we remove any damaged tissue. A thin layer of etchant is painted onto the surfaces of teeth. Etchant creates deeper grooves in the tooth surface to allow the composite resin to seep into more parts of the tooth’s surface, creating a stronger bond. Next, the putty-like resin is shaped over the tooth to correct or conceal smile flaws. Once in position, a low heat light is used to harden the putty into position. Finally, the resin is smoothed and polished, and you leave our office with a flawless smile.
Benefits of Cosmetic Bonding Treatment
If you choose to move forward with cosmetic bonding, you can expect a number of benefits, including all of the following:
- The entire process is completed in one trip to the office, so you’ll save time compared to other cosmetic solutions.
- In most cases, we will not need to remove much, if any, healthy tooth structure, making this a very conservative solution.
- Cosmetic bonding is very affordable compared with other cosmetic options, so many patients find it easier to fit this treatment into their budgets.
Caring for Your Smile After Cosmetic Bonding
Following your cosmetic bonding treatment, you can care for your teeth as usual with daily brushing and flossing and regular visits to our office. Like your natural tooth enamel, composite resin is absorbent, which means that it will stain over time. To maintain a brighter appearance, you should limit your intake of darkly colored foods and beverages and forego tobacco use. Athletes should always wear sportsguards to protect teeth during athletic competitions and practices. If you struggle with nighttime teeth grinding and clenching, you should wear a mouthguard as directed.
